Solid Surface - FAQ
Q. What are solid surfaces?
A. Solid surface countertops are a solid acrylic or acrylic polyester blended material. The advantage is that the color is uniformly distributed throughout the material.
Q. How do solid surfaces compare to other countertop surfaces?
A. Solid surface is a man-made material. It offers the greatest consistency in color and is available in numerous color options. Beautiful and practical, it’s a nonporous material that does not require sealing. It’s also naturally resistant to heat, mold and mildew. In fact, it ranks with stainless steel in resistance to fungal and bacterial growth. Additionally, most stains, even tough stains, are easily buffed away.
Q. What’s the best way to clean and care for my solid surface countertop?
A. Routine daily care and maintenance of solid surfaces is easy. Clean by wiping the countertop with mild soap and water. Rinse the top and then wipe dry. You can remove stubborn stains with a liquid abrasive cleanser such as Soft Scrub® and a sponge. Use a small amount of the liquid abrasive and rub in a circular motion until the stain is gone. Rinse the area and then wipe dry.
Q. Can I repair my solid surface?
A. In most cases, your countertop can be repaired if accidentally damaged. Inconspicuous seams allow a fabricator to easily repair damage.
Q. How is solid surface repaired?
A. Nicks, scratches and cuts are inevitable with any high-use product. Minor damage, including scratches, general or chemical stains, scorches or burns, and minor impact marks, can easily be repaired onsite with a light abrasive cleanser and a Scotch-Brite® pad. For heavier damage, light sanding may be necessary. Please call your DeNova™ countertop expert for assistance.
Q. Will my solid surface countertop stain?
A. No. Stains are not able to penetrate the nonporous material. You may see some superficial staining, but these can be removed with a household Scotch-Brite® pad.
